Mammography A mammogram is a very low dose x-ray of the breast using specialized
equipment and technologists. This technique provides the sharpest
images of the inner structures of the breast and has been developed to
detect small cancers of the breast before they can be felt on physical
examination. This
early detection of breast cancer saves lives. The quality of mammograms has improved vastly during the last 10 years. However, because mammograms are not 100% accurate, it is important that women also perform monthly breast self-examinations and have a yearly physical examination of their breasts by a physician.
Each radiologist who participates in breast disease evaluation has received extensive education in this area and participates in intensive continuing medical education on a regular basis. Our technologists are highly dedicated, sensitive professionals, all of whom have received additional certification and training in breast imaging. Mammography services and exams are all certified by the American College of Radiology and the FDA.
