Dr. Zimmerman graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1972
and was a radiology resident at Montefiore Medical Center in New York from 1973
through 1976. Following a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the George Washington
Medical Center in Washington DC, he returned to Montefiore as an attending in
the division of Neuroradiology and as Assistant Professor at Einstein College of
Medicine. In 1983, Dr. Zimmerman was appointed Associate Professor of Clinical
Radiology at Cornell University College of Medicine (CUMC) and as staff radiologist in the
Division of Neuroradiology of The New York Hospital (NYH).
In 1986 Dr. Zimmerman
was named Director of Radiology Resident Training and Co-director of
Neuroradiology at CUMC/NYH. In 1989, he was promoted to Professor of Radiology
at CUMC and in 1992 he became the Director of Neuroradiology at CUMC/NYH. He is
currently the Vice Chairman for Education at Weill Medical College of Cornell
University and the Director of Neuro-MRI at New York Presbyterian Hospital
- Cornell.
Dr. Zimmerman's areas of academic interest are adult Neuroradiology.
He has
authored publications on head trauma, MR features of hemorrhage, and CNS
inflammatory disease. He has co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications, and
20 invited papers/book chapters. He co-edited the Neuroradiologic Clinics of NA
volume on Stroke and was a guest editor for the "Topics in Magnetic Resonance
Imaging" volume dealing with Emergent MR imaging. He is a member of the
editorial board of the American Journal of Neuroradiology and is a manuscript
reviewer for five additional journals including the New England Journal of
Medicine.
